Getting my bearings here was tough, even though the official language is ostensibly English. Once I did, though, I realized I was in a hyperclean, Far-eastern New York City (map). Hong Kong island seems to be analagous to Manhattan, complete with its own financial district and Soho. Still exploring the island, and eager to check out the others. A super-efficient Airport Express took me to a super-clean Hong Kong Central station (I saw public sanitation workers pulling cigarette butts out of sewer grates with chopsticks), where it only took a few minutes to find a cab to the "mid-levels" where my hotel is.
I'm right next to the botanical gardens (/zoo) and a few minutes from Soho - check out these gibbons! I've known gibbons have kicked butt since I did a report on them in Miss Havighorst's class in third grade, but these guys were totally rad. Checked out the zoo, Soho, and downtown for a little before I could check into my hotel. Totally lagged, once I got settled I crashed for close to 12 hours.
